Some people are color-blind and won’t be able to see the color of your links. So it is a best practice to also underline your links.
However, underlining too close will reduce the readability of the text. This is because letters with a downward stroke like g, j, and p will run over the line making it harder to read.
You can overcome this issue by adding some space between the text and the line. You can also decrease the transparency of the line or make it dotted.
